As a mission-driven non-profit organization, Verra is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving livelihoods, and protecting natural resources across the private and public sectors. We support climate action and sustainable development with standards, tools, and programs that credibly, transparently, and robustly assess environmental and social impacts and enable funding for sustaining and scaling up projects that verifiably deliver these benefits. We work in any arena where we see a need for clear standards, a role for market-based mechanisms, and an opportunity to generate significant environmental and social value.
Verra manages a portfolio of standards, including the:
Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) — the world’s leading carbon crediting program, with more than 1600 registered projects in 80 countries, and accounting for two-thirds of all voluntary carbon market transaction volume.
Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta) — a flexible framework for assessing and reporting on the sustainable development benefits of project-based activities.
Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards — to identify projects that simultaneously address climate change, support local communities, and conserve biodiversity.
Plastic Waste Reduction Program — to enable robust impact assessment of new or scaled-up waste recovery and recycling projects around the globe.
Verra has an opportunity for a Senior Manager, Accreditation Program Standards. In this challenging and rewarding role, the Senior Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of accreditation standards that govern Verra’s programs. This role reports to the Director, Auditing and Accreditation and supports them through the implementation of a program designed to ensure Verra’s standards are highly credible and implemented as intended.
A day with Verra’s Program Management Team might include:
Collaborating across Verra departments and external stakeholders to consult on Accreditation Program requirement needs.
Working with International Accreditation Forum (IAF) member bodies to identify concrete areas of opportunity to strengthen VVB performance through Verra’s Accreditation Program Standards.
Writing a policy or a procedure to specify/update accreditation requirements.
Hosting an online seminar with VVBs and Accreditation Bodies (Abs) on accreditation program requirements.
Accompanying a VVB on a project site visit, to assess their work and identify areas for improvement, as part of Verra’s performance observation audits.
Specific functions you will be responsible for leading:
Developing, implementing, and overseeing Verra’s accreditation program strategy and objectives that ensure program integrity and credibility.
Planning, maintaining, and executing the annual work plan activities required to achieve Verra’s accreditation strategy and objectives.
Coordinating with other business units and external stakeholders to develop a full suite of Verra accreditation procedures and policies that are technically correct, clear, and implementable.
Monitoring and updating policies and procedures to ensure their continued suitability for Verra and related stakeholder needs.
Engagement/onboarding and relationship management with ABs and VVBs to ensure all Verra Accreditation Program Standard requirements are understood.
Developing key accreditation program metrics and/or indicators for inclusion in Verra’s VVB Performance Monitoring Program.
Leading the development of accreditation program training materials for VVBs and Abs.
Representing Verra at accreditation related conferences and workshops. Serve on various committees related to accreditation, as needed.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant accreditation standards and guidelines.
Continually researching and implementing improvements for Verra’s accreditation program to respond to performance and capacity learnings as well as to keep pace with evolving technology.
You bring with you:
7-10 years of relevant experience, including 3-5 years of experience in standards development, accreditation, ideally in the GHG project certification or sustainable development project certification fields.

Experience with ISO 17029, ISO 14065, ISO 14064, and social auditing accreditation standards, ideally with certificates of standards/relevant training completion.
Lead auditor and/or strong understanding of the standards and principles of auditing and the auditing techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating, and reporting to determine a quality system’s adequacy and deficiencies.
Experience and knowledge of the standards industry, specifically in the voluntary and/or regulatory carbon market.
Strong project management and organizational skills, including prioritizing and working efficiently and effectively under deadlines. Experience in quality management and business process expertise preferred.
Culturally aware with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders and partners from different countries and cultures.
Initiative-taker with the ability to excel in a professional environment with limited supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English is essential. Fluency in other UN languages would be an advantage.
In this role, you will grow and expand your expertise by:

Building a global network of highly qualified ABs and VVBs addressing some of the most critical environmental and social issues of today.
You will know you are successful, if:
You build on your appreciation and respect for the challenges and opportunities faced by users of Verra’s programs and your work directly increases the quality of projects certified under Verra programs.
Verra stakeholders consistently express positive feedback regarding your ability to collaborate to find workable solutions to challenges they face.
The quality of work being done by VVBs is consistent and high quality, reducing the time the Program Management Department spends reviewing and raising findings on project registration and issuance requests.
