POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, you will lead and execute the overall strategic communications/marketing and media strategy. You will work closely with the Fund Development and Stewardship & Fulfillment teams to support all communications and content deliverables with our corporate partners and government funders and deliver results-oriented and measurable communications that support ALUS’ stated strategic priorities and business goals.
You will also work with different project teams within ALUS as needed. ALUS is an agile organization that relies on everyone’s ability to respond to multiple priorities on an ongoing basis and wants to provide internal professional development opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communications: Lead the continuous development, delivery, and implementation of the overall strategic communications, marketing & media strategy to deliver results-oriented and measurable communication initiatives that support ALUS’ stated strategic priorities and business goals.
- Branding & Messaging: Effectively steward the brand to ensure that the organization’s image and messaging are clearly and consistently represented in all of ALUS and its partners’ communications. Play an instrumental role in anticipating and assessing reputational risks.
- Business Development & Fund Development: Support the Fund Development team by co-creating compelling propositions and developing innovative communication and material. Ensures good relations with partners by ensuring that the recognition objectives and communication deliverables are met.
- Reporting: Collaborate with the Stewardship & Fulfillment team for the creation of an annual impact report and crafting inspiring narratives for funder reports.
- Outreach: Participate in committees and events to help build ALUS visibility and relevance with key stakeholders in the country. Also support the participation of ALUS National Team members in conferences and events, in terms of messaging and content.
- Public Relations: Bring your communication expertise to government relations and participate in writing briefing notes, proposals, responses, etc.
- Misc: Occasionally supervise external resources who create or translate visual, video, audio or written content.
SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE
- The basics: At least 10 years’ relevant experience and a university degree in a related field. Knowledge of agriculture, ecosystem services, natural infrastructure and nature restoration and/or previous experience in the environmental nonprofit sector are strong assets.
- Strategic thinking and planning: You are forward-thinking and know how to develop and execute long-term communication strategies that align with organizational goals, while managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Collaborating for success: You listen to your colleagues to understand their needs and are committed to deliver results that contribute to the organisation’s overall goals and objectives.
- Excellent communication skills and high-quality standards: You are committed to telling human stories and popularizing complex environmental and agricultural concepts for various audiences.
- Media, government and partner relations: Proven experience in media relations, government and partner relationships.
- Mindset: You have a high level of personal integrity and excel at working independently on several projects at once. You have a collaborative and creative attitude and enjoy being part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Bilingualism: ALUS is a national organization, therefore being bilingual, English and French, written and spoken, is a strong asset.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND COMPENSATION
- Normal working hours are Monday to Friday; 35 hours per week, remote.
- Occasionally, extended hours and weekend work may be required.
- Some travel may be required to attend field visits, events, and in-person team meetings.
- ALUS Canada does not have a centralized office space; The person will work from a home office, which may be located anywhere in Canada with reliable access to high-speed internet and a safe, ergonomic, and private workspace.
