Job brief and responsibilities

As the Director of Secretariat, you will lead a team responsible for the core operations and continued development of our Standard. You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to build the world’s leading nature-based standard.

Keep the Pulse
– Engage regularly with external stakeholders (Project Developers, Brokers, End-Buyers, VVBs) to gather feedback, insights, and suggested improvements.
– Collaborate closely with internal teams (R&D, Certification) to gather feedback, insights, and suggested improvements. Ensure our tools (field app, web interfaces and data products) are in line with our methodologies.
– Ensure continued compliance with external accreditations (ICROA, IC-VCM, CORSIA) and national laws in which we have active projects.
– Keep up to date with industry best practices and the latest science.

Drive Continuous Improvements & New Methodologies
– Uphold and improve processes to regularly update the Standard.
– Work closely with the Executive and R&D teams to maintain a unified company roadmap, including major updates to the Standard, as well as new methodologies.
– Assemble working groups of relevant stakeholders and experts to draft updates and new methodologies, in collaboration with the Secretariat.
– Submit final drafts to be validated by the Technical Advisory Board (TAB), an independent group of subject-matter experts.

Standard Operations
– Oversee all operations on the ERS registry, ensuring accurate recording, tracking, and reporting of carbon units associated with certified projects.
– Establish and maintain a strong network of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs), coordinating audit processes and addressing any queries or concerns.
– Liaise with the Technical Advisory Board and manage its ongoing operation.
– Address grievances from stakeholders, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution abilities.

Team Leadership
– Collaborate as a member of the Executive Team, engaging in strategic discussions, providing valuable input and perspectives.
– Lead and mentor a team responsible for various aspects of Standard management. Provide guidance, support, and growth opportunities to team members while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
– Handle day-to-day management responsibilities including team syncs, weekly 1-1s, and quarterly performance reviews to maintain the performance and well-being of your team.

Within a month, you will finalise our application to ICVCM.
Within three months, you will draft M002 and open it to public consultation.
Within six months you will publish M002 and the next version of M001.

Special Requirements
Key qualifications we value for this role Technical Experience & Skills – 7+ years experience in one or more of the following: – Implementing and managing land-based projects, preferably for nature-based carbon projects – Drafting methodologies for land-based standards, preferably carbon standards – Excellent knowledge of carbon markets, leading accreditations (i.e., ICVCM, CORSIA, ICROA), leading standards (VCS, Gold Standard), and ARR or REDD+ methodologies. – Experience as a public-facing spokesperson for an organisation. Management Experience & Skills – 5+ years experience managing cross-functional teams and complex projects. – Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. – Outstanding copywriting skills (writing methodologies, presentations to the TAB). – Capable of both viewing the big picture and paying attention to detail.
