As key member of the Oceania Regional Office (ORO) team, the Position will be responsible for undertaking the following functions and tasks:

1. Programme and portfolio support
• Serves as technical expert for ORO’s programme of work in environmental law and policy, in contributing to IUCN’s overall programme agenda for just, inclusive and equitable conservation at scale.
• Provides professional input to ORO projects and activities to engage with, influence and strengthen capacity for national legislation and regional/international agreements.
• Manages assigned projects and activities to ensure their high-quality, timely delivery and completion as per IUCN and donor requirements.
• Contributes to the preparation of project proposals, reports and other written outputs both for internal and external sharing.

2. Collaboration and partnership
• Collaborates with ORO team in setting and executing programme agendas such as for marine ecosytems, protected and conserved areas, climate and nature-based solutions, sustainable natural resource use, environmental justice and other regional programme priorities.
• Serves as ORO focal person for environmental law and policy in inter-regional and global initiatives of the IUCN secretariat and Union constituents.
• Establishes and maintains strategic and operational relationships with key partners including government and non-government organisations
• Facilitates learning and knowledge exchange platforms to promote the use of IUCN knowledge products and tools.

3. Corporate legal advice
• Supports the provision of corporate legal advice to the Office of the Regional Director.
• Assists in ORO’s internal business matters including contracts review process.
• Guides ORO staff in preparation and submission of relevant documents for submission to the IUCN Office of Legal Adviser (OLA).
