The role
We are looking for an experienced Software Developer to super-charge the team’s geospatial data visualisation expertise on our remote-by-default collaboration-first product engineering team. Your work will impact Revalue by increasing the insight, usability, and accessibility of geospatial data through our platform, supporting our mission to create the most cutting-edge and trusted nature credits for the planet. You’ll join a team of seasoned engineers practising remote-first Extreme Programming (XP) and Domain Driven Design using a proven tech stack including React, TypeScript, Python, and Kotlin.
This is a remote-first role, but we encourage collaborative engineering practices such as pair programming, making overlap with our UK-based and Indonesia-based engineers highly preferable (GMT+0 to GMT+7).
What You Will Do
– Design and implement advanced geospatial mapping experiences. You will leverage your knowledge of geospatial data and front-end development to create intuitive and interactive mapping solutions that visualise complex environmental data. On a typical day, you might pair program with other engineers and geospatial analysts to design and implement interactive map features, or troubleshoot complex geospatial queries, ensuring our platform delivers accurate, insightful and actionable geospatial visualisations.
– Develop innovative data visualisation experiences. You will create compelling and informative visual representations of data that enhance user understanding and engagement. This involves using modern data visualisation libraries, crafting dashboards, and visual analytics tools that transform raw data into actionable insights for our users and stakeholders.
– Contribute to the sustainable delivery of quality software. You will produce code across the application layers of our data platform. You’ll deliver well-tested and maintainable code, balancing sustainable quality with impactful velocity. You will do so primarily through collaborative pair and ensemble programming, but you may also do so independently by participating in peer-reviewed development when appropriate.
– Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team. You will collaborate with our product team, scientific domain experts, designers and other engineers to perform continuous product discovery. Informed by discovery, you will work with the product & engineering teams to define and run experiments, practice rigorous iteration and deliver value in small steps.
– Support our customers. We believe in owning the products that we build. You will help the team define our KPIs, product SLOs, and alerting thresholds. You will participate in an on-call rotation to support issues that might affect our customers and help our team identify and reduce operational toil that limits our impact.
– Support our teammates. You will have ample opportunities to mentor other engineers as they build their skills and experience. You’ll do so through pair programming, code reviews, daily communication with your team, giving and receiving thoughtful feedback, and helping your teammates grow.
What You Bring to the Role
Ideally, you bring many of the following attributes to the table:
– A love of nature. We are a mission-driven company with a strong affinity for conserving and restoring natural systems. To make hard things happen, our team must put mission over ego. You find purpose not only in personal growth but also in stopping climate change and biodiversity collapse.
– You’re experienced with geospatial concepts and their visual applications. – You understand geospatial concepts and love applying them to design data visualisation and mapping applications that enhance the accessibility and usability of geospatial information. You’re comfortable leading other engineers in the development of customer-facing experiences that seamlessly integrate data sources to create visually stunning and informative maps that communicate complex spatial data effectively.
– User-Centric Design and Data Visualisation: You are passionate about creating visualisations that are not only technically robust but also highly intuitive and user-friendly. You have a keen eye for design and user experience, ensuring that your data visualisations provide clear insights and actionable information. Your focus on user-centric design helps translate complex data into easy-to-understand visual formats, enabling users to make informed decisions quickly and effectively.
– A strong sense of collaborative teamwork. You are comfortable participating fully in the collaborative Extreme Programming approach to development, product discovery and teamwork. You believe by embracing collaborative practices, we are more likely to achieve our shared objectives, benefit our users through rapid delivery, grow together by sharing knowledge, and ensure that every teammate can get the rest and time away they need.
– Comfortable supporting production software. You have experience shipping features to production and understand how to investigate and triage issues in your deployed code. You may have participated in an on-call rotation before and have opinions about making it an effective and positive experience.
– An adaptive and curious mindset. As a startup in an evolving industry, we keep our roadmap malleable and open to change in search of new opportunities for impact. You have an open mind and are comfortable pivoting as and when needed in response to new insights into our customers’ needs.
– Clear and open communication. We consider clear and thoughtful communication a fundamental engineering skill and a strong predictor of future impact. You demonstrate this in your contribution to documentation, collaborative problem-solving, and willingness to give and receive feedback.
– Excited by distributed teams. You will be joining an international remote-working team with a proven ability to function effectively within diverse cultural environments. You’re comfortable with the challenge and excited by the freedom afforded to remote teams, are a self-driver with a willingness to take initiative within a complex and fast-growing sector
Don’t hesitate to apply despite only ticking some of these boxes. Our strength is in our diversity, and we look for individuals who bring something new to the team – background, skill, and perspective.
