Climate Action Network (CAN) is a global network of more than 2000 civil society organizations in over 130 countries driving collective and sustainable action to fight the climate crisis and to achieve social and racial justice.

CAN members work to achieve this goal through information exchange and the coordinated development of NGO strategy on international, regional and national climate issues. CAN has regional and national network hubs that coordinate these efforts around the world. Our work is challenging and exciting and we love what we do. This position sits in the CAN International (CAN-I) Building Power Department and reports to the Head Building Power Department and works closely with the Network Development Officer and other team members in the department.

Attributes

● At least 3 years of working in programmatic and institutional network coordination.
● Experience in working with civil society networks. Experience with CAN members and nodes and other stakeholders is an advantage.
● Good understanding of the role of civil society and movements in addressing climate change, climate justice and the intersectionality thereof, and the ability and eagerness to apply that understanding in the approach to our work.
● Proven understanding of organizational development and institutional capacity building, including an understanding of the challenges in communication, resource constraints, and other unique circumstances found in civil society, including a sense of contextual and cultural differences of different geographies.
● Proven understanding of governance structures of civil society organisations and networks, including the ability to provide support and advice in this area.
● Strong logistical coordination skills, especially in the area of organizing meetings/conferences/workshops.
● Basic campaigning, organising and mobilisation skills
● Excellent organizational and time management skills: Ability to prioritize, adjust workload, juggle multiple assignments and meet or exceed deadlines, and willingness to work under time constraints and pressure.
● Experience in program management and program development.
● Strong command of the English language.
● Computer skills: advanced competence in MS Office and databases.
● Command of an additional UN language is a strong asset.
● Proven experience working in developing countries in climate change and/or sustainable development.
● Experience and ease in coordinating and administering meetings using digital communication platform applications, such as zoom, slack and google drive
● Experience in financial management, network coordination, campaigning, mobilisation and fundraising

Special Requirements
Ability and willingness to travel extensively and on demand (at least 3-5 times per year for 1-3 weeks per travel).
