We seek a passionate Policy Officer to lead advocacy campaigns and influence EU climate policy. As an ambassador for Sandbag, the role necessitates a deep understanding of policy and politics and the ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:
• Track and analyse political and policy developments in the EU and member states on climate-related issues.
• Obtain insightful information on political dynamics that shape decisions.
• Contribute to Sandbag’s policy recommendations.
• Contribute to public consultations, roundtables, and workshops as part of civil society.
• Design and implement advocacy campaigns.
• Foster relationships with stakeholders in political spheres and NGOs.
• Promote our recommendations to stakeholders (policymakers, NGOs, businesses,…).
• Contribute to relevant campaigns from NGOs and get them to support our initiatives.
• Contribute to drafting Sandbag’s reports.
• Report on our campaigns and pitch our work plans to funders.

Special Requirements
Experience • A Master’s degree in political science, EU studies, climate-related disciplines, or other fields related to Sandbag’s work. • At least 4 years of experience as a political advocate, with a proven track record of policy impact. • A recent experience within Brussels’ policy environment (“bubble”). • The right to work in the EU. Necessary skills: • A demonstrated passion for fighting climate change. • Detailed knowledge of European climate policies. • Ability to understand technical material (legislation, charts, reports) and communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Excellent organisational and planning skills. • Excellent communication skills in English, including writing (blogs, articles, technical reports), presenting (public speaking, presentations) and in face-to-face meetings. • Attention to detail with a talent for precision in written and verbal communication. • Ability to learn quickly, be autonomous and take initiative. • Networking skills and enthusiasm for building professional relationships. • Enthusiasm for working in a small organisation, punching above its weight to achieve change. Desirable skills: • Detailed knowledge of legislative developments on the CBAM and/or carbon dioxide removals. • Knowledge of the steel and/or aluminium sectors.
