Job purpose

Joining a growing team, the Programmes Director will work closely with the Chief of Staff to help plan, implement, and improve the programmes of work. They will be expected to hit the ground running, leading a motivated and remote programmes team and overseeing diverse projects and processes. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Lead the delivery of the core programmatic streams: outreach, capacity building, and community development;
Collaborate with the CEO and Chief of Staff to define and shape annual and long-term programmatic strategies, including setting objectives, key results and budgets, and ensuring alignment with our vision and growth;
Identify gaps in our current work and strategically design and implement new activities that align with our mission and further our impact;
Collaborate with the CEO and Chief of Staff to oversee and support the successful delivery of a major international conference every two years, ensuring alignment with strategic goals;
Lead and strengthen relationships with our network of volunteer experts, ensuring sustained engagement and maximising their contributions to our programmes;
Drive the continuous improvement of programmatic work by overseeing the development, implementation and refinement of key processes and tools, including a CRM, and with a strong focus on optimising impacts and ensuring strategic alignment;
Provide strategic leadership and oversight to a growing programmes team, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and high performance standards;
Provide strategic guidance and support on policy engagement, fundraising, communications, and reporting activities as required; and
Offer occasional strategic guidance and expert support to our funded research teams, ensuring alignment our goals and enhancing the impact of their work.

Special Requirements
Candidate profile Essential – A master’s degree in a relevant field, such as international development or environmental science; Familiarity with SRM; – A minimum of ten years’ relevant leadership experience, with a proven track record of strategic oversight; – At least two years’ experience with climate change, including knowledge of the various options to respond to it; – Extensive experience in high-level programme planning within non-governmental organisations; – Proven ability to lead grant administration, event organisation, impact monitoring and evaluation, and/or budgeting and financial management; – Demonstrated success in managing teams, fostering high performance and collaboration; – Dynamic, flexible, and self-motivated, with strong leadership presence; – Exceptional organisational and leadership skills, adept at multitasking, setting and delivering on strategic priorities, and working under pressure; – Strong analytical skills, with ability to distil key messages from complex information for high-level decisions; – Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships across diverse backgrounds and organisational levels; – Comfort working remotely in a dynamic, evolving environment with a start-up culture; – Strong written and oral communication skills in English; – Ability to occasionally travel, including to developing countries, for up to a week per visit; – A commitment to the mission and values of the charity; and Based and legally able to work in the UK. Desirable – A PhD in a relevant field such as environmental science; – Deep expertise in SRM, including a thorough understanding of its scientific, ethical, and policy dimensions; – Proven experience in the creation, scaling or transformation of an organisation or business; – Advanced digital skills, such as with spreadsheets’ more specialised features, CRM systems, databases, data analytics, or forms; – Experience in a leadership role in or with developing countries, with an understanding of the socio-political and economic dynamics that influence programme success; and – Proficiency in an additional language(s).
