As an organisation, Bellona has always been at the forefront of environmental innovation and industrial decarbonisation. Being a group of evidence-based environmentalists, our goal is to implement new, more sustainable actions effectively reducing CO2 emissions today. We advocate for pragmatic approaches that deliver the greatest impact, today and tomorrow. As a watchdog against greenwashing, unafraid to address contentious issues, we also endeavour to cooperate with all stakeholders interested in immediate climate action. For decades, from our Oslo and Brussels offices, and more recently from our Berlin office, we have been advocating transformative climate action in industry.

We are looking for a motivated and proactive professional to work on communications at Bellona Europa. With our work on climate solutions, sometimes complex technologies and concepts need to be translated into simplified narratives and visuals that capture the essence of what we would like to communicate. We are seeking somebody who, not only is committed to the climate crisis, but is also enthusiastic about the various facets of communications and social media.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Native level English, both spoken and written.
• A background in Journalism, English language, Public Affairs or Communication studies.
• A passion for social media management and simplifying complex ideas into easy to grasp information.
• Experience working with adobe creative suite programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and in content creation.
• A good understanding of the main social media outlets.
• Experience and interest in press relations, database management and/or website management are a plus.
• Eligibility to reside and work in Belgium.

There is no specific degree requirement. Nevertheless, excellent writing skills are a prerequisite.

Key responsibilities:
• Supporting the Communications Specialist in drafting content for communication materials, including newsletters, social media outputs, infographics, event invitations or press releases.
• Supporting the Communications Specialist in editing and proofreading outgoing material, designing publications and creating visuals for social media.
• Helping with the social media analytics and metrics.
• Supporting the wider team at Bellona Europa on content-related communication tasks, including for internal/external events.
• Assisting with managing and updating the website.

We offer you a meaningful and engaging experience through this paid traineeship based in Brussels (full-time 38h/week) with an initial 6 to 8 months Belgian CIP contract, starting as soon as possible. Remuneration overview: about 1300 EUR net per month in total, including meal vouchers & a homework allowance. Bellona covers the phone calls & commuting tickets from home to the office. We also offer extra-legal holidays. Bellona promotes a multicultural, flexible, inclusive and collaborative work environment.

How to apply? Please send us your application in one PDF document including both your cover letter (1 page max) and your CV (2 pages max). Your PDF file should be named as follows: familyname_name.pdf. Please send your application by email to our HR mailbox hr@bellona.org for the attention of Mrs Alissia Bourguignon, Communications Specialist, indicating ‘Bellona Communications Traineeship’ in the subject line, by the 8th of February, at 18h00 CET at the latest. Note: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Kindly indicate where you found our vacancy.

Who we are: Bellona Europa is an independent, non-profit organisation that meets environmental and climate challenges head on.
